I’m sooooo excited to finally be able to have time for this post! And of course to share this all brand new experience with all of you guys! If you follow me Twitter you may have had a preview on this arrival post!
Well, here’s the story for those of you who haven’t heard. First of all, I’ve moved back from Personal size to Pocket size a while ago. This had to do with my current, full time job and having a family and two kids. There wasn’t much time, quality time that is, to spend with me beloved Personal Regency. This was really a sad thing to state, as I love this Filofax so much!
However, I’ve decided to move into something less heavy and more portable. Being for work in an A5 Osterley and carrying this one in my laptop bag along with my business supplies, made me choose to not wanting to be in Personal size also! Pocket it was!
Finding ‘the perfect Pocket Filofax’ doesn’t come easy. There’s the 15 mm ones, such as the Pocket Cuban and there’s the 19 mm ones, such as Amazona, Malden, Baroque. Well, I’ve all had or have these ones in my collection. However, I just don’t care for the exterior full width pocket which is often used for keeping receipts, notes, cash, when used as a wallet too. I won’t be using this Pocket as my wallet though. Therefore this pocket, to me, is totally unnecessary. This’ll be my main and only personal Filofax so I highly prefer the Filofax to be without this particular pocket! Still with me?
Okay, there’s limited options. I’ve sold my Teal Baroque. This one doesn’t have the pocket, but I wasn’t using her and decided to sell. The Classic Pink doesn’t have one either, but I was getting tired of the bright pink after a while. Is that even possible? The Amazonas do have them, not in an annoying way though. However, the croc print I’m also a bit tired of, and I decided I wanted something more long term and classy.
I came across this post on Cat’s Corner. She also moved into a Mulberry Pocket Book. Actually, she up sized from her Mini Amazona to the Pocket Book. As soon as I laid eyes on it; I realized that I wanted one! Well, you all know; they don’t come cheap. A new one on the Mulberry website runs from Euro 300 till even over a 1000 Euro for an Ostrich one! They are lovely though! However, too big of a risk and not having that kind of money laying around, so on eBay I went. And I got lucky!!! There were quite a lot Pocket Books on eBay. The Congo in Black, I’ve seen many times show up in the listing. The asking price was still around the Euro 160,- ex P&P. Way too much again! I also really wanted a brown one, rather than black. And I was happy to have found one!!!! The seller originally didn’t ship to The Netherlands, so I emailed her. Told about the Blog and how I really, really craved for her Mulberry!!! She decided to make this one exception. I just had to pay extra for the P&P, but that was fine. Once we agreed on the price, she had it shipped during my holiday. So when I got home, I found this parcel in my mailbox!! J!!!
So, have fun checking out on the pictures!!! I’m in it as we speak. The Mulberry had arrived around July 19th. That’s the date I started to use it also. Just haven’t had time to blog about its arrival.
I immediately moved in. The parcel was a little damaged. There was a note/sticker on the parcel, it had been opened during transit plus apologies for the fact. I didn’t make any pictures of the unwrapping, so this pictures is of the Mulberry with the content I had in my Pocket Classic Filofax and after that VDS binder.
It came with the a-z index tabs.
As you can see, it’s loved and used a lot. There’s signs of wear and some scuffs. However, it’s in perfect condition!
Lovely and soft cover. Structured, yet not stiff at all. Has also a lot of give. No cardboard feel to it such as the Osterley. The leather is grained, yet soft. The leather smell is still present!
There’s two buttons present for the fastening, which is just perfect! This way you can slim it down or stuff it and have it properly closed! In the pen loop does fit a Bic 4 colored multi pen.
Really like to clasp over the clasps on the current models! I prefer this clasp. It’s the same as the Congo.
It’s very convenient this Pocket book does take Filofax Pocket size inserts!
The gold logo/stamp isn’t on the newer models any more. Really like the gold stamp though! On the cover is the Mulberry (tree) embossing.
The pen loop is full leather, but is enough ‘stretched’ to fit fatter pens. Love that! One of the advantages of being the second owner I guess.
On the right; the full length pocket. Very high quality pockets and enough give to fit a lot of stuff! There’s also 3 credit card pockets present. And of course; NO full width exterior pocket.
The Paperchase clips in the Mulberry. They look really lovely!
Okay. Here we go. When I unwrapped it and it was still empty, it didn’t catch my attention. Now I think: how could it not?! As the rings are HUMONGOUS!!!! I’ve compared these to the 19 mm ones and they appear to be bigger!!! Next up I’ve compared these to the ‘regular’ 23 mm ones of the Personal sized Filofaxes. The seem to be of the same size!!!! Not sure though, they could be slightly smaller, but just 1-2 mm tops. Isn’t that amazing?! I just couldn’t believe it until I moved in. I moved out from the VDS which has 15 mm rings and I had to take some stuff out, when moving into that one. The Mulberry however takes a lot of sheets!
I need to properly measure the rings one day and do a comparison post about that. The Mulberry rings versus the 15 mm and 19 mm rings of Filofax.
Such a wonder!
I’ve emailed Mulberry and asked about their ring size of the current Pocket Books. They replied it has 1.0 cm height. Whatever that means.
I’ve tried to capture the rings nicely on the picture the best way to show you guys the big rings. Hope I’ve succeeded,
Some Martha Stewart sticky notes
Frog Kawaii Stickers and super sticky Post its from work in pink
Loyalty card from Esprit
My Filo World business card and some other business cards
Japan Corner ruler I was given with my last order
Filofax transparant fly leaf
PipStudio organizer colofon page
A lot of tabs by Martha Stewart and Filofax sheets and inserts
I’ll do a proper tour and set up post about the Mulberry one day. This one needed again some tweaking as I just moved out a lot of stuff in order to fit in my VDS binder, give the fact it has only 15 mm rings. I was happily surprised to notice the Mulberry can take much more due to the bigger rings.
On the right: bottom view of the Mulberry pocket book.
I just recently finalized my set up and moved back in certain sections. The big ring size to me is just perfect. This being my only personal planner and organizer it’s a very nice bonus to be able to carry so much stuff with you at all times. And still it’s a light weight in comparison to Personal size. I could really stick to this planner in the future! I guess this binder will be stuck with me until it’s completely fallen apart! This’ll happen one day! The worst part is, I won’t be able to find a binder this pocket size with this size rings, ever!!!!
Hope you liked this post! If there’s any one who can tell me more about this model Mulberry. When it’s discontinued and can tell me more about the ring size or about how to measure rings properly, please let me know!
Will be a guest post. It’ll my sold Baroque featuring that post!!! You wouldn’t want to miss that! I’m also planning to do a next free give away and competition soon! I’ve picked up all this lovely goodies at Paperchase NL. I’ve never known there was a Paperchase department in Holland!!! So I went on a spree and decided to pick up nice things to share with you guys!
See you soon!
