Well, I was given the opportunity to pick the colors I’d like to have on both in and outside of the binder. Also the type of leather I could pick by myself.
I ended up choosing the Ostrich in black on the exterior and the hot pink fashion color on the interior including the matching stitching on the outside.
I had to wait for almost two weeks for it to arrive. This was told to me before, so it wasn’t a surprise. As the organizer is hand made on demand! Love this!
Here it is!!
Me & VDS
I did a few posts during the process of the making of the VDS binder. I’ve known about this brand, however never used one of their binders before. This was going to be my first! I’ll let you know further in this post, how I liked using this binder and how I am doing so far.
About the VDS Junior (pocket size)
It was really a great experience to actually order on of their fashion colors custom design organizers. They’re available in different sizes you can check those out on their website. I went with the Junior (same as pocket size of Filofax) as I was already back in Pocket size again.
I can ’t really tell much about its specifications, but I’ll do my best to specify as much as possible.
- Rich leather with Ostrich print. Cow hide or maybe even calf.
- Ring Mechanism Size: Six rings of (probably) 15 mm
- Left: 2 Full length pocket, four cut edge credit card pockets
- Right: One full length pocket and elasticated/partial leather pen loop, one extra pocket
When it came in, it immediately came to my attention that it’s so tiny! Compared to the measurements of the Filofax Pockets it appears to be really small. As you can see on the picture below. It does take Filofax/Pockets inserts though and it also doesn’t interfere with the tabs and closing it up. So, that’s fine. However I prefer a ‘bigger’pocket. It is the perfect size if you’re looking for a smal(ler) Pocket to carry in your handbag that’s compatible with the pocket size sheets. A bigger Mini I’d say!
The black is just black and lovely. The cover isn’t stiff and it has a lot of give. Even though it’s small, it does take a lot of inserts! The hot pink is really lovely! Also the matching stitching.
The rings really match the binder size. They’re really tiny! I believe they’re the 15 mm ones. A bit too small for my liking. However, you can fit quite a lot of stuff in here and easily close it up. The rings came in perfect condition though!
It came with a complete set and diary pages. This wasn’t included. I was given a complementary pack because of the review and posts on the Blog. It came with a lot of sheets in cotton cream!
The custom design is very special!I had a lot of fun ordering one! It wasn’t love on first sight thought. Designing and picking your own colors and type of leather is a bit tricky as it could work both ways. You’re not able to look it up on someone elses Blog and drool over it, or check it out on YouTube in order to get a proper look at it. It was worth the ‘risk’.
I really like the pockets and lay out. The exterior full width pocket isn’t present though, so this organizer will not be suited too well in terms of a wallet. There’s also no zipped compartment to hold coins, however there’s enough zipped pockets and ‘hacks’ around to work around this.
The pen loop is partial leather and partial elasticated which is very sufficient if you’d like to keep in here a bigger pen. I have a Coleto 4 color pen in here to give you the estimate. I also keep one of the Leuchtturm adhesive pen loops in here to store an extra pen.
If you’re looking for a ‘compact’ bigger than Mini size binder, smaller than Pocket size and you feel like owning an unique organizer this VDS binder may be the way to go. However, it’s quite expensive given it usually doensn’t come with any diary or inserts. Yes, it’s a cool experience, but if you’re in need for cash, this might probably not be the way to roll.

How Am I Doing So Far?
Well here is the conclusion. I’ve been using this VDS binder for weeks. As it’s so small and compact and it could fit (almost) all the inserts I need, I took it with me on our trip to Greece.
In Greece I found it laying on the nightstand days on end. I was in Greece for 2 weeks and I’ve never had the urge to even pick it up and open it to flip through the pages, I usually do this at least once a week in my main Filofax/organizer. For some reason it didn’t much appeal to me.
I kept wondering why; perhaps it’s the black color? In Greece it was very hot, summer and all that. Perhaps the color did not match the state of mind? Or duet o the whether; being outdoors etc. etc.
I also didn’t really like the smaller ring size, although I totally get it. It’s a smaller binder. (I’ll measure it one day for you). Having a large Mini, small Pocket in your handbag does have advantages in terms of weight. However, when you’re using this organizer as your main and personal organizer, you should be able to take in all the inserts you need. I forced myself to take some stuff out. Not because of the weight, but because of the rings that weren’t comfortable with that many sheets and inserts and I don’t like it, when the pages won’t flip properly.
So, I guess this binder to me is a very nice and unique addition to the collection. I won’t sell it either, as it’s quite special in some way. I’ll hold on to it for now. It’s just not THE organizer for me. And it’s not a Filofax. For some reason it does matter to me. Even though it has perfect rings and may be even more durable than a random Filofax.
Update & Next up!
To keep you on top of all the developments. Prior to my holiday I’ve won a Mulberry on eBay!!!! I was soooo lucky to have found that one! It’s a Pocket Book Mulberry. They’re so expensive! I figured I wasn’t going to purchase any in the near future. So I hunted one done on eBay. I’ll tell you more about it next up!
Thanks for your patience during my absence and see you next time!!
